Malachi Ohawume scored his fourth goal of this season’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday as Rivers United overpowered Katsina United 1-0 in Port Harcourt.
The forward leaped highest to head past Daouda Kassaley in goal for Katsina United on 77 minutes to hand maximum points to the Pride of Rivers in a tightly-fought contest decided at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
Rivers United climb to 4th place on the NPFL table with 48 points from 28 matches.
Chief Coach of Rivers United, Ndubuisi Nduka was full of praise for his players after the victory against Katsina United.
“It was a tough game, I think our boys gave it their all. What made it more difficult for us was the chances we lost especially in the first half but at this point and this time of the league, the second round, we are stretching to the finishing point, it is always difficult and if you remember the position of Katsina United, they are not too safe so they are looking for where to pick points so I give kudos to the boys for scoring at least that goal that secured three points for us.” he said.
Rivers United will now turn their attention to the Rivers State FA (AITEO) Cup final where they will confront Go Round FC on Tuesday 22nd June 2021 at the Sharks Stadium by 10am.
The match was initially scheduled to hold on Friday, June 18th, 2021 at Sharks Stadium but was postponed due to heavy downpour that made the pitch unplayable.
