Godwin Otene, the father to a slain commercial bus driver, Christian Otene has narrated how his son was killed by an operative of the NSCDC attached to the Rivers State Taskforce on Street Trading and Illegal Motor Parks.

Christian Otene was on Tuesday shot dead by a trigger-happy personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps along NTA road over alleged violation of parking rules.

The father of the deceased told our correspondent that his son was on his lawful commercial bus business when the state taskforce vehicle intercepted him over allegation of wrong parking.

“While my son was explaining to the taskforce personnel that he did not violate the rules of wrong parking, a taskforce member brought out axe to hit his head.

“My son held the axe and other taskforce members started dragging him.

As he (my son) attempted to resist them, the NSCDC operative working with the state taskforce shot my son to death,” the father narrated.

The body of the slain commercial bus driver has been deposited at the Mortuary of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

Meanwhile, the union representing commercial drivers in the state has vowed to put an end to any extra-judicial killing of its members by authorities of government.

The Chairman, Urban Drivers Welfare Association, Rivers State, Lekia Isaac who made this known to our correspondent insisted that the killer security agent of Christian Otene can not go unpunished.

Isaac said, “we will not allow this kind of extra-judicial killing to happen again on our members.

“We will do anything humanly and legally possible to ensure that on no account should anybody take the life of our member just like that.”

Our correspondent reports that the 37yr old deceased who hailed from Benue State has left behind a son and a widow.
