Most residents in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, on Monday went about their normal businesses as they defied the sit-at-home order imposed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The sit-at-home order, which was issued by IPOB, is a day set aside to remember Biafrans, who lost their lives during the Nigerian civil war.
Roads, stores were busy with movements as vehicles were seen plying their usual routes. Institutions swarmed with students, with usual lectures and activities taking place.
A student, who spoke to TPCN revealed that the remembrance day should not be an ultimate reason to shut down movements, while adding that it is a thing of the mind.
“I think the idea behind the sit-at-home order is a good one, but it is not right to stop people from attending to their schedules. Remembering those who died during the war is a state of the mind. I can sit at home, and still decide not to remember what I’m being asked to remember”
Meanwhile, some areas in the state complied with the order as most residents in Oyigbo Local Government Area stayed indoors.
However, most South Eastern states were in full compliance of the sit-at-home order, as economic and social activities were brought to a halt.
