Asaba, Oyigbo join IPOB’s sit-at-home order as four die in clash with police

No less than four people were feared killed and several others injured in a shooting between members of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and Police in Ebonyi State.

It was gathered that the shooting took place at Nnodo in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state where police attacked IPOB members enforcing the group’s sit-at-home order.

Eyewitnesses said one police officer and three IPOB members are among those killed while motorbikes and cars were set ablaze during the attack.

Meanwhile, human and commercial activities were grounded in the South-Eastern states and parts of South-South on Monday as residents obeyed the sit-at-home order by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

In Umuahia, the Abia capital, and adjoining villages, residents stayed back home, leaving the streets, especially the ever-busy city centre, known as Isigate, completely deserted.

Government offices, schools, banks, shops, business centres, markets, malls and plazas and petrol outlets remained closed.

Also, private and commercial vehicles kept off the roads, leaving the metropolis like a ghost town.

A cross-section of the residents expressed mixed feelings over the IPOB order.

In Asaba, economic activities were brought to a halt in obeyance to the sit-at-home order, while the Igbo-dominated Oyigbo Local government area was on full lockdown though economic activities took off in Port Harcourt as early as 6: am but was less effective.

In Awka, Owerri, Abakaliki, Nnewi, Onitsha and Enugu; banks, schools and business centres were closed and the roads devoid of any vehicular movement.
