As the new Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi assumes office, the State branch of the Judiciary Workers Union has assured the CJ of their maximum cooperation.

State Chairman of JUSUN, Comrade Anthony Wachukwu, in an interview with our correspondent, said they are happy to have a CJ who understands the workings of the Judiciary and expressed the hope that he will not sweep workers’ welfare under the carpet.

“We have been praying for him to come and God has answered our prayers. We are happy because his records when he was a Chief Registrar showed that judiciary workers enjoyed better welfare, our hopes are high and we strongly believe the CJ will not fail us now his the Chief Judge.

“The Judiciary Workers are ready to work with the new Chief Judge of the state. We assure him of a peaceful atmosphere that will make him thrive.

“We expect he will do well, he knows the workings of the Judiciary, he will bring his wealth of knowledge into the administration of Rivers judiciary and the issues bothering on workers welfare he will address.

Comrade Wachukwu also expressed the belief that the Strike embarked by JUSUN will end sooner than expected, noting the strike suspension is solely the decision of the National Secretariat and not the branch levels.

“Part of our prayers is for peace, let the strike end in our favour and we believe the strike would be called off soon, but the power to suspend the strike is solely the decision of JUSUN National Secretariat.”

On their part, some lawyers who spoke with our correspondent also called for a good working relationship with the CJ in order to create a better atmosphere for the State Judiciary system to thrive.

According to them, the appointment of Justice Simeon Amadi is the right step in the right direction, describing him as a man of integrity, a renowned jurist who will not hesitate to take positive actions.

They urged the CJ to ensure there is a cordial relationship maintained between JUSUN and the Rivers State Government and carry the Nigerian Bar Association along.

They said the CJ should enforce the independence of the Judiciary which the Governor has emphasized that JUSUN is enjoying substantive independence.

The Lawyers expressed expectation that the new CJ should continue and improve on where the previous CJ stopped who did a good job in enhancing justice delivery in Rivers State.
