Ugwuanyi orders immediate reconstruction of burnt police station

Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has ordered the immediate reconstruction of the razed Iwollo police divisional headquarters.

In a visit to the scene of the attack on Tuesday, he expressed sadness over the gruesome act while condoling the command and families of the officers who lost their lives.

He also ordered the construction of barricades at the police station and immediate replacement of all that was destroyed, including a patrol van.

Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Aliyu, confirmed the attack that claimed the lives of four police officers.

In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, the commissioner said the hoodlums arrived in numbers, opening fire on police personnel on duty.

He stated that several of the attackers that sustained gunshot injuries were later confirmed dead at the hospital.

CP Aliyu condoled with the families of the deceased officers, who he said paid the ultimate price in the line of duty while appealing to citizens to provide any useful information that would assist the police in investigations.

He also urged hospitals and other medical outfits to promptly report any individual(s) found with gunshot injuries.

In recent times, the Southeast has experienced major attacks on security operatives, with many losing their lives.
