We’re ready for second round of NPFL – Eguma

Ugochukwu Iwuchukwu

The Technical Adviser of Rivers United of Port Harcourt Stanley Eguma says the team is ready for the second stanza of the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL.

Stanley Eguma said this after their one nil victory over league rivals Enyimba FC in a rescheduled NPFL game at the Adokiye Amaesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Sunday Adetunji scored the only goal of the game in the closing moments of the encounter.

Former Abia Warriors striker Adetunji featured for the Aba Elephants in 2018 and was on the books of Plateau United this season before terminating his contract to sign with Rivers United.

Stanley Eguma while speaking to newsmen said the victory is a testimony of the team’s readiness for the second half of the NPFL.

He said the win will spur the players ahead of the second stanza of the league.

The gaffer also heaped praises on the goal scorers Sunday Adetunji who he described as a good addition to the team.

Eguma believed that the player (Sunday Adetunji) will do more exploits in the remaining part of the season.

He also said that the return of Ifeanyi Anaemena and Theophilus Afelokhai to the team against their former club Enyimba FC contributed to the victory recorded during the game.

The Technical Adviser of Rivers United also hailed the fighting spirit of Enyimba throughout the game.

The win lifts Eguma’s side to fourth in the table with 32 points while Enyimba who still have three games in hand are two points away in seventh.

The second stanza of the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL is expected to kick off on May 8th, 2021.

Rivers United will face Dakkada FC of Uyo on Sunday, May 9th, 2021 at the Adokiye Amaesimaka Stadium Port Harcourt as they resume hostilities for the second stanza of the NPFL.
