Woman demands compensation from police after loss of pregnancy

Mrs Joy Godstime Ihunwo has demanded for compensation for torture by the personnel of the Anti-kidnapping unit of mini-koro, Police Command, Port Harcourt, which led to the loss of her pregnancy.

Earlier this week, theportcitynews.com reported that the victim was unlawfully arrested and brutalized by men of the Anti-kidnapping unit of the police command in Port Harcourt.

Joy disclosed that the men barged into her house in the guise that someone they were chasing, ran into her house.

She said, she told them that nobody ran into her house and they descended on her with slaps and kicks.

She said that even while she pleaded with them to spare her and her three months old pregnancy, they continued, kicking her stomach severally, and hitting her waist with the butt of a gun.

She further disclosed that the officers bundled her to the station and further refused to take her to the hospital as she complained of sever abdominal pains.

She also revealed that they took her to her house and commenced a search without a warrant.

It was gathered that after the officers ransacked her house, she discovered that some items in her house were missing including a Samsung galaxy tablet, a Techno spark 3 phone, six yards of Gorge wrapper and the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand Naira.

She said she confirmed the loss of her pregnancy after she went for a scan at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital on Sunday, April 11, 2021.

Joy, with the help of the Center for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Rivers state is demanding for justice and compensation for the loss she suffered during the event.
