Royal consort to the Queen of England, Prince Philip, has passed on at age 99.
In a statement, released by Buckingham palace, it read:
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
The Duke has been in and out of the hospital for various ailments, most recently, in February when he was admitted at a hospital in London for not feeling well.
The Duke had been steadfast in service to both his family and the nation will greatly be missed.
Tributes have since been recieved from across the World in honor of the fallen Duke.
In a tribute, British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson described him as an environmentalist and champion of the natural world long before it was fashionable.
The Duke was married to Queen Elizabeth II for more than 70 years and became the longest-serving consort in British history.
