Francis Apiee is the winner of the Rivers state governor’s cup golf tournament.
Francis Apiee of Ikoyi golf club in Lagos recorded a gross score of 210 to emerged as the overall winner of the tournament.
He expressed joy over his victory at the tournament.
”So happy today that I win the tournament because it’s a privilege by God, it’s not my power. I am never scared of anybody. I just want to believe that I want to play against the course. I am not playing against anybody I am playing against the course. So I thanked God that my swing was ok because I swing from my mind” he said.
Meanwhile, the new director of the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria Tony Philemon says he will partner with the media and private sector to expose the pros to international tours.
Tony Philemon said it’s time Nigeria pros begin to play the European tours and American tours
Dr Tony Philemon who is the chairman of Degema local government council said he will work very hard to ensure the pros play tournaments on monthly basis.
”I believe very strongly that my emergence will bring about innovations, new things to professional golfing. We will have to see that we are again strongly hooked up to the European tour, the US tour, and every tour we can lay our hands-on because in the past this has been the case. We know that there is a dire economic downturn but we still know that there are lovers and believers of sports. We hope that they will come and partner with us. We will go after them to partner with us even the media is not left out”. he said.
In the meantime, the new tournament director of PGAN John bull Dangorfa has hailed the emergence of Tony Philemon as the director of PGAN.
He said the Tony Philemon will be his wealth of experience into the game of golf n Nigeria.
Johnbull Dangorfa said the PGAN will assist Tony Philemon in getting new tournaments for its members.
