Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick has been elected into the FIFA Council.

Pinnick becomes only the second Nigerian – after Amos Adamu – elected into the Council of the world football governing body.

He was elected during CAF’s General Assembly which took place in Rabat, Morocco today (Friday).

Following several withdrawals prior to the elections, Pinnick and Malawi’s Walter Nyamilandu were the only two candidates left from the anglophone block.

Nick Mendwa, the President of the Kenya FA pulled out of the race on Friday morning.

Prior to Mwendwa’s decision, the two others in the race, Mwendwa was campaigning vigorously hoping to snatch the seat.

One of the biggest contender Andrew Kamanga of Zambia pulled out of the race two days ago to clear the path for Pinnick to swoop for his votes.

Also throwing in the towel was Wallace Karia of Tanzania who withdrew three ago.
