Nigerian Police Force dragged on Twitter

Florence Uwaeme

Following the celebration of International Women’s day two days ago, as is expected of firms and organizations, they celebrated women and wished women well in their struggle for a better society.

Well, some organizations who joined in on the celebration of women for international women’s day had a good drag from angry children of Twitter.

One such organization is the Nigerian Police Force. The Nigerian police force took to their Twitter handle in celebration of women’s day. They wrote ” Happy International Women’s day 2021. You are intelligent, courageous, undaunted and dependable”

Their tweet, however, was not taken in good faith by some members of the public as they were dragged for being hypocrites as they went ahead to list the number of atrocities committed by the Nigerian police against Nigerian women. They were asked to keep quiet and not join in every trend just because they have data.

Below are some of the tweets from angry children of Twitter.

“Have you reinstated the unmarried female police officer who got dismissed because she got pregnant in Ekiti? …. comot here”

“Police that will press your ass and boobs all in the name of checking to see if you helped a “suspected” yahoo boy to hide phone. Who gives policemen the right to search a woman? Policewomen finish for station? You people should shift joor”

“Stop Killing their sons, brothers, Husbands, Fathers, and Uncles. Stop the brutality. l think that is what the Nigerian women will like to get from y’all”

“The video where you thoroughly beat up a lady in front of Area C Ojuelegba readily comes to mind. You are being hypocrites!”

“Dear @PoliceNG, Before wishing us anything, the first thing is to reinstate that lady you sacked for getting pregnant. Do you sack men for getting people pregnant? You don’t celebrate women without providing equal opportunities for women to grow and thrive.”

“The hypocrisy when the police force is known for raping women and killing them to avoid accountability.”

“After murdering and rendering thousands of women widows? The audacity!”

“Mtchewww! Shey the women una dey harass and assault no follow for women abi?”

“Haven’t forgotten that in 2019, policemen unjustly arrested women in Abuja and raped some of those women using pure water sachets as condom.”

“After sacking a female police officer for getting pregnant, you are now mocking women, on a day dedicated to them? You’re wicked!”

“When would the police start sacking randy male officers who can’t control their third leg? September 2020, an NYSC corner, Miss Stella Abugu was raped & strangled to death while in Police custody.

No justice whatsoever for the victim till this day. Yet the Nigeria Police Force has the audacity to also celebrate #InternationalWomensDay

Y’all are beyond disgusting!”

“Isn’t this the same police force with officers allegedly using nylons as “condoms” to rape women?”

“Is this not the same police force that her officers assaulted, tortured and abused the rights of women at a protest in Oct 2020?”
