Former Super Eagles and Sharks fc of Port Harcourt goalkeeper Idah Peterside has blasted Rivers United for their exit from the CAF Confederation Cup competition.
Idah Peterside while speaking to newsmen after the team’s loss to Enyimba fc at the Adokiye Amaesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt said Rivers United were very poor during the return leg tie of the play-off round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
He said that Rivers United supposed to progress to the group phase of the competition at the expense of Enyimba.
”I don’t know about the league but the game I saw here as a professional is quite poor. I want to see players pass the ball six times seven times but I didn’t see that here. The worse of them was the Rivers United side. You are playing at home with the whole fans supporting you, you must play with purpose. I think this is not a game you should lose if things were done properly” he said.
SWAN pained by Rivers United exit
In the meantime, the Sports Writer’s Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Rivers State chapter expressed deep pains with the ouster of Rivers United Football Club in the CAF Confederation Cup Competition.
SWAN Rivers in a statement signed by its Secretary-General Chukwudi Ejimofor asked Rivers United team to put their acts together and win the NPFL this season and secure a continental ticket next season to justify the enormous resources invested in them by the Governor
”The match was a keenly contested encounter as Rivers United displayed splendid class, they canceled the one-goal deficit scored against them at Enyimba Stadium Aba. The game of football in its characteristics, extended to penalty shootout, it became obvious that it could go either side”.
”The incentives and motivations by our sports-loving governor, Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike Esq. CON, PoS Africa didn’t go in vain even when Rivers United did not qualify to the group stage of the competition, rather it eloquently portrayed that the governor has shown capacity to the world that the Power of Sports Africa award to him was not a fluke, but a well-deserved honour” he said.
SWAN Rivers also encourages Rivers Angels Football Club to do the state proud by winning the NWFL this season, and become the first female football team in Nigeria to play in the continental spot hence justifying the Power of Sports Africa enthusiasm in the team, as he demonstrated while presenting the motivational packages to them.
