The organizers of Governor Nyesom Wike Pre-Season football tournament says the competition will now end on Sunday, Nov 15, 2020, after adjusting the fixtures of the on-going tourney.
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Bashir Badawiy said the committee is determined to give all teams equal opportunities and ensure a glorious finish to the tournament.
Bashir Badawiy also commended all the participating teams for their show of maturity and understanding.
According to him, the competition has lived up to the billing as the number one pre-season tournament in West Africa.
“The camaraderie amongst the participating teams has been heart-warming and a marker for others to follow.
“Let commend all the teams for their interest and understanding even at short notice. I am indeed proud of them,” he stated.
Bashir, on behalf of the sponsors, Rivers Ministry of Sports and Organising Committee commiserated with MFM Football Club over one of its players that got injured and required medical attention.
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee also said the semi-finals of the competition will now take place on Saturday, November 14, 2020.
The semi-finals and finals had been previously fixed for Friday and Saturday respectively.
Three teams have so far qualified for the semi-finals namely Rivers United, MFM, and Bayelsa United.
In Group A, the only contest remaining is Lobi against Ottasolo.
The result of the match will ultimately determine which team comes first amongst Rivers United, Lobi, and Ottasolo.
While Lobi requires just a draw to top the group, Ottasolo must beat Lobi by at least 3-0 to stand a chance of making semi-finals.
In Group B, MFM came tops and will await the second of Group A, while Bayelsa United awaits first placed team.
