INEC fixes date for 2023 elections

The 2023 general elections will hold on February 18 of the year, Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said.

Mahmood disclosed this Thursday at the inauguration of the House of Representatives Special Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

He explained that as done in 2019, general elections in the country have to be held the second week of February of each election year and called on the National Assembly to ensure the timely review of the constitution.

The INEC Chairman also called for the review of the present Electoral Act to give legal backing to the use of technologies in the electoral process hence the present manual process is cumbersome and costly.
