Rivers Gov’t closes major roads in Obio-Akpo to traffic

The Rivers State government has announced the closure of some major roads in Obio/Akpo Local Government Area to vehicular traffic from July 5, 2020, to September 4, 2020.

A statement by the Commissioner for Works, Austin Ben Chioma said the closure is to facilitate early completion of ongoing road construction in those areas.

According to the statement: “The Rivers State Ministry of Works wishes to inform the general public that there will be a closure of old Aba road by Rumuogba fly-over and at Rumuibekwe Housing Estate junction on New Aba road for two months from Sunday 5th July 2020 to Friday 4th September 2020.

“The ministry appealed to the commuters and other road users within and outside the state to follow the traffic diversions”.

The statement said Heavy-duty and smaller vehicles from old Aba road should pass through Rumuogba-Woji road to YKC junction then turn left on Woji-Elelenwo road and turn left on Elelenwo-Akpajo road to get back to Port-Harcourt-Aba Express road.

It added that smaller vehicles can navigate from railway through Rumuibekwe Housing Estate to New Aba road.

“Heavy-duty and smaller vehicles from oil mill should divert at Rumuokwurusi-Elelenwo-Akpajo road to woji-Elelenwo road big roundabout, turn right to get to YKC through Woji to Rumuogba junction and connect Aba road.

“Smaller vehicles can navigate through Rumuibekwe Housing Estate to Woji road to old Aba road. We regret the inconveniences this may course the general public”.
