The Vice-Chairperson of Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Uche Ken Ndukwu, has allegedly violated the COVID-19 Executive Order of the Rivers State Government after throwing a well-attended birthday party for her husband.
Rivers state has so far recorded 53 cases of coronavirus out of which 29 are active cases, 21 discharges and 3 deaths.
Theportcitynews gathered that the female politician who also doubles as the Head Of COVID-19 Taskforce in the LGA, organised the party with no regards to rules of social distancing on Sunday with guests not wearing face masks.
It was also gathered that days before the birthday party which was reportedly attended by over 200 persons, Ndukwu was in Umuechem market with members of the LGA’s covid-19 Taskforce team where they destroyed traders goods worth hundreds of thousands.
She was reported to have also gone to Igbo Etche with her team and dispersed some persons for violating the Order.
His boss, Obinna Nwanyanwu had been spotted on social media monitoring compliance with the executive order in the LGA.
Governor Nyesom Wike had earlier empowered each LGA to set up a Taskforce team and ensure maximum compliance with the order.
But the latest development comes as Wike, a week before, personally supervised the demolition of two hotels in Eleme for violating the order.
Wike had vowed to deal with anyone who violates the executive order, stressing that the state does not have the capacity to tackle explosion in covid-19 infections.
Among the measures taken by his administration includes a total lockdown of Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor, the financial nerve of the state.
Ndukwu did not immediately respond to inquiries by our correspondent for comments but a representative of the state government’s covid-19 response team said the state government will likely take disciplinary measures against her.
