The W.H.O. announced that the COVID-19 was here to stay and not getting eradicated any time soon. Several persons received this piece of information with consternation…well, yours sincerely simply uncorked the very next bottle of mouth sanitizer and took a sip…I could care less!
The admission by the W.H.O. calls for some introspection…
Is that an admission of the failure of the lock-down? Is it a call for the countries to develop another strategy to combat the virus aside lock-down?
Or does it mean that countries already locked-down should remain locked-down until the virus takes a bow?
For those that insisted that just being locked down was the best response to combatting the virus, we should all remain locked-down till the virus were confirmed dead! This is the projection of their philosophy…and we don’t fault it! If lock-down works as claimed, then we should remain locked-down now that the W.H.O. has admitted that the planet is in for the long haul!
After all, Nigeria purportedly had 104 cases before lock-down and over 5,000 cases during lock-down! All in a space of 6 weeks… lock-down has been that effective! Never mind the fact that the model in Nigeria doesn’t jive with the trend worldwide! Let’s lock-down for the next 3yrs…the Coronavirus pandemic has been estimated to die out in 3yrs! I support this! A 3-year lock-down!
Those of us that called for the virus to be isolated, studied and the mode of propagation in the tropics studied, treatment regimen ascertained, by the Nigerian establishment were called names! Conspiracy Theorists, they said! Just wait for the “vaccines” and all shall be well…so they said!
But I always wondered what our sins were to call for the Nigerian Establishment to carry out Researches on the Coronavirus in the tropics like Nigeria! Numerous people didn’t pay attention; if the W.H.O. or the US doesn’t support our methodology, then we must be talking trash!
So the W.H.O. has announced now that the Coronavirus was here to stay for good! Based on the philosophy of those that believe that we were talking trash, Nigeria must be locked-down for as long as the virus is still around. Countries that initially reacted to the panic button like the UK, Germany, Portugal, Croatia and all are opening up and rethinking their approaches to the pandemic. An MP in the Netherlands yesterday actually regrets the initial panic that led to the lock-down and wondering why they didn’t think outside the box and ended up having a 2% drop in their GDP! But some Nigerians wanted to eat us raw for asking that a Nigerian solution should be sought rather than the “copy and paste” model of the NCDC!
A few hours ago, the NCDC Director General announced during his daily briefings, that the organization “shall rethink the response model currently in place”. I laughed out loud! Of course, they are getting data and policy redirects from the W.H.O., the US and the European countries. But they wouldn’t tell you that the Response Model initially adopted was inadequate; they have told you they would have a rethink! A rethink we “begged them to have 8weeks ago”! Lol…
Dear Friends, it’s shameful that when we disagree on issues, we tend to denigrate others that might have different inferences on observed data! It’s even more embarrassing that those with scientific and analytical backgrounds join the lay people to denigrate sound opinions just because it didn’t resonate with them or questions their beliefs!
The announcement of the W.H.O. that the Coronavirus was here to stay is an admission of a very warped Response Model to a real global epidemic! The W.H.O. failed woefully… and numerous countries failed along as a result! YOU insulted those of us that felt otherwise and tried to call for reason and a different approach! Now that the Coronavirus is gonna be here for at least 3 years more, you should ensure you were locked-down for as long as that virus roams the streets! Or wait for vaccines! Isn’t that your philosophy?
Thinking outside the box is no crime…not thinking outside the box is no crime either! Your penchant to swallow everything and anything from whomever without using your own head is definitely criminal; it’s a crime against yourself and a crime against those around you for your refusal to THINK! We don’t have to be stupid; we only have to think, ask the right questions and get the right answers! Then come up with practicable models! No wonder we have saddled ourselves with a disgrace called the 1999 constitution! We refuse to think! Our heads are not a decoration, you know? We really should start using them!
