Police raid kidnappers’ hideout in Rivers, kill one

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have killed a kidnap kingpin Samuel Nakpoo.

DSP Nnamdi Omoni, Public Relations Officers of the command told newsmen that the Rivers State Anti-Cultism Police Unit in a combined operation with operation ‘Sting’ led by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ahijo D. Lawson, early hours of Saturday while acting on credible intelligence stormed the hideout of the hoodlums at a forest in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area.

He said that on sighting the Police, the criminals took to their heels. Items recovered include 1 GPMG; 1 G3; 1 SMG;1 rocket launcher; 5 pump action guns; 4 Ak47 magazines; 2 G3 magazines and over 400 live rounds.

Omoni disclosed that the kidnappers were responsible for kidnappings and robberies along the Ogoni-Uyo axis of the East road.

He said that one of the kidnappers Samuel Nakpoo’s‘ male’ who was earlier arrested and whose confession led the operatives to the forest attempted to escape but was shot on the leg.

However, he was rushed to UPTH where He was confirmed dead.

Omoni, while appealing to the public to supply useful information that will help the command, said efforts are in top gear to arrest fleeing members of the gang.
