UK coronavirus death toll climbs past 5,000 as 403 more die in England alone

The UK coronavirus death toll has today broken the 5,000-mark after 403 died in England alone.

NHS England confirmed the latest victims were aged between 35 and 106 – with 15 having no underlying health conditions.

There have now been 4,897 total deaths in England – but with the latest victims in Wales and Scotland factored in, the death toll for the UK has broken the 5,000 marks.

NHS figures only include those who have died in hospital – not the 40 further coronavirus deaths registered at home.

In Scotland today, two further people have died – bringing the total number of deaths to 222.

While in Wales, 27 more people died – with their total now on 193.

The figures for Northern Ireland have not been released yet.

The latest number of positive coronavirus cases in Britain will be released by the Department of Health later.
