As the curfew imposed by the Rivers State Government goes into effect, residents of Port Harcourt have taken to social media to register their displeasure with the way they are being treated by the police.
The Rivers State Government on Monday imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on Obiri-Ikwerre Junction( Ozuoba, Rumualogu) to Choba and from Education Bus Stop to Agip Junction.
Governor Nyesom Wike said that the State Security Council reached the decision after it monitored compliance with the State Government’s directive.
He said: “With effect from Tuesday, March 31, 2020, there will be a dusk to dawn curfew from Obiri-Ikwerre Junction( Ozuoba, Rumualogu) to Choba and from Education Bus Stop to Agip Junction, Ikwerre Road.
Residents woke up to roads in their area blocked by police officers.
In some areas, residents said they were forced to raise their hands before crossing the roads.
Please @honkelechinwogu tell the governor that Rivers State police command does not understand the English he spoke yesterday. Please tell him to use pidgin if necessary because police and Army in the state are asking people to raise their hands up while they walk.

Rivers State Governor @GovWike should stop being autocratic and consult Lagos State Governor @jidesanwoolu. Imposing everything on the good people of Rivers State is a bad Governance

So the Rivers State Government has clarified that the curfew in the affected parts if PH is for 24hrs till further notice.
The fault wasn't that of the @PoliceNG but of the Government that obviously didn't understand the meaning of DUSK TO DAWN. https://t.co/kAuxUdmxOT— Joshua Nte Rogers (@joshua_rogerss) March 31, 2020
@GovWike imposed dusk to dawn restriction of movement in some parts of Rivers State, but men of the @PoliceNG in @PoliceNG_Rivers command are already enforcing the restriction during the day before dusk,it's either the @PoliceNG_Rivers are overzealous, hyperactive or not literate pic.twitter.com/QTdGtFX8yV

This is what citizens suffer in Rivers State this broad day light because of police not being able to understand meaning of dusk to dawn curfew as ordered by @NyesomWlKE. @GovWike should take note pic.twitter.com/xCG80RXT1d

So the curfew in the designated locations is now 24hrs without making plans for people to survive with this sudden and unexpected change. There's definitely something wrong with Rivers State.
