The Kano State government has finally dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.
The dethronement of the Emir followed the State Council executive meeting presided over by the Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
According to the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, the emir was dethroned over disrespect to the office of the governor and other government agencies.
He added that the removal was with immediate effect.
He said the emir’s action violated part 3 section A-E of Kano state law, hence the removal, adding that the removal was in line with consultations with relevant stakeholders.
He said a new emir would be announced in due course and urged Kano people to remain calm and go about their normal businesses.
There was a free-for-all fight on Monday when the Deputy Speaker and chairman of the Public Complaints and Petition Committee, Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, raised observation over the investigation of petitions of an alleged violation of the culture, tradition and religious values by the emir, The Nation reported.
Trouble broke out when Chidari, in his attempt to make observation known to members, was instantly opposed by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Assembly.
