The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has assured that his administration is committed to the creation of jobs and youth empowerment in the state.

This is as four National Youth Service Corps Members have been forced to repeat their service year.

Speaking during the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Passing-Out Parade Ceremony of the 2019 Batch A Corps Members deployed to Rivers State at Isaac Boro Park in Port Harcourt, Governor Wike said, as future generations, the youths must remain steadfast and committed to the cause of nation building.

He urged them to join hands with all Nigerians in restoring the country to her glorious years.

Governor Wike who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, advised the youths to remain steadfast, noting that even though the service year had ended for them, the task of nation building has just started for them.

“Be prepared to surmount emerging challenges in order to build the ideal and enviable Nigeria of our collective dream“, he said”

He noted that the NEW administration would continue to partner the NYSC scheme in bridging the gaps in the critical areas of the State such as education, health, agriculture, rural infrastructure and delivery service.

“My administration will continue to hold the NYSC in high esteem and continue to make investments in all its programs and activities to engender and promote the consciousness of wealth creation, sustainable development and self reliance in our graduates.

“Shun all forms of negative tendencies that have brought the nation into negative image such as indiscipline, bribery, nepotism, religious bigotry amongst others. Let me also assure you that the members of the various communities whose lives you touched positively will never forget you,” he said.

Earlier, the NYSC state coordinator, Mr Chinwendu Chukwu revealed that 2484 corps members were passed out while 1 corper has been adjudged worthy to recieve the State Honours Award because of her outstanding personal sacrifices and enormous contributions that improved her host community and left it better than she met it.

He also stated that, 4 corps members will repeat the whole service year while 10 members will serve extension of service from one to four months on half pay.

He thanked the Governor for his profound love for the NYSC and his unrelenting support and commitment to make the operations of the NYSC scheme in the State a huge success.
