Residents call for sack of Rivers CP as doctor makes shocking revelation on death of Chima Ikwunado

Residents of Port Harcourt are calling for the sack of the Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mustapha Dandaura and Nnamdi Omoni, Command PRO as new revelation emerged on Monday over the murder of the Late Ikoku Mechanic, Chima Ikwunado by men of the Eagle Crack Unit.

Chima was tortured to death on December 19 by men of the unit at Mile Police Station, Port Harcourt.

When the news of his death sparked widespread anger on social media, Nnamdi Omoni, the Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer said an autopsy conducted on Chima’s corpse showed that the late mechanic died from high blood sugar.

The family disputed the claims, adding that the late Chima had no history of diabetes and was never on drugs.

As pressure mounted on the command to be more transparent with their investigation by releasing the corpse of the late mechanic for another autopsy, the force succumbed and a new autopsy was agreed upon on Friday.

Family of the deceased and Civil Society Organizations in Rivers State were shocked on Monday as the command brought the corpse to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, venue of the new autopsy.

Dr Musa Stephen, a Police pathologist was reported to have said that there was no previous autopsy conducted on late Chima Ikwunado.

The family of the deceased and Civil Society Organizations also said on Monday that Chima Ikwunado’s body has marks of intense torture.

Civil Society Organizations said that the grievous wounds on the body of late Chima indicate that the deceased suffered brutal torture with machete cuts before his death.

Enefaa Georgewill, Chairman of RIVSCO told newsmen at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital that Chima’s body are horrible.

He said Chima was tortured to death, regardless of the outcome of the autopsy report.

“We have confirmed that the body is Chima and we must say that with the level of torture that was meted on Chima was out of this world.

“Chima was not tortured to death, he was butchered to death; cracked bones, handcuffs, neck cuffs, wounds and many more. The whole of his hands were machete. You could see it. This is wickedness in the highest place even when torture has been outlawed in our constitution.

“The Police that was meant to protect citizens decided to maltreat a citizen to this level.

“With the level of injury, I don’t think there is need for any autopsy anymore. It is enough to conclude that Chima was butchered to death.”
