Police arrest Grandma for bathing grandkids with peppered water

A grandmother has been arrested by police in Rivers State for bathing her grandchildren with peppered water, and for stripping and chaining them.

The fifty-two-year-old woman simply identified as Mama Vera was arrested for allegedly maltreating the children at Mgbuoba in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state

The maltreated female kids were between the age of 7 and 8.

Police in a statement said the woman dished out the devilish punishment because they ate garri without her consent.

Neighbours said they broke into the house when they heard the children calling for help after their grandmother had left home for work.

They also alleged the grandma stopped the children from going to school.

Precious Johnmark, a lawyer who also witnessed the incident called on the Rivers State Police Command and the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, to follow the case and ensure the prosecution of Mama Vera for allegedly violating the rights of the girls.
