The family Itonyo Matilda Mark, a final year student in the department of law, Rivers state University who was stabbed to death by unknown assailants on 10th December, has expressed fear that the case might be swept under the carpet due to lack of funds to pursue the matter to a logical conclusion.
Police Command in Rivers State had said in December that an ex-lover of the murdered 500-level Law student was arrested in connection to her murder.
Although the police did not reveal his name, the command said he is being investigated in connection with the gruesome killing.
Miss Itonyo was raped and murdered in her off-campus apartment on a Tuesday morning.
She was said to have been stabbed multiple times on the neck.

Her killers also took away her cell phone.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, explained that the ex-lover was arrested for interrogation in connection with Itonyo’s murder.
“We cannot say that we have arrested the killer of the student. He was only arrested for interrogation and at the end, if he is found culpable, he will be prosecuted. But if he is innocent, he will be allowed to go.
“Yes, the suspect is the former boyfriend of the late student. He was arrested on Saturday morning after being tracked to his residence.” Omoni told theportcitynews in December.
Father the deceased, Ebikii Itonyo, said that the family lacked funds to pursue the matter.
The grief-stricken father, however, said that he is ready to go to any length to get justice for her daughter.
He said that an autopsy has been carried out on her remains, adding that the family cannot afford charges including legal fees and regular visits to the police.
