Ugochukwu Iwuchukwu

Rivers United defeated Adamawa United two-nil on the road in the week 11 encounter of the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL.

Goals from Junior Osaghae and Malachi Ohawuma in the 25th and 87th minutes respectively gave the Port Harcourt based side the three maximum points.

The victory is the club’s second away victory of the season.

Rivers United will next face MFM FC in Port Harcourt on January 5 in their first game of 2020.

The Port Harcourt club has now moved into the continental places as they are now level on points with second-placed Lobi Stars on the log having amassed 18 points from 11 matches.

“The players put up a good effort and we want to amass points that will take us to the top of the table,” technical manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma told newsmen after the game.

Stanley Eguma said that such performance would boost the morale of the players ahead of their match-day 12 encounter against MFM FC of Lagos.

In Umuahia, Abia Warriors thrashed league leaders Plateau United three-nil while Kenedy Boboye continues his winning streak as Akwa United pip Lobi Stars by one goal to nil.

Ifeanyi Ubah FC also beat Heartland FC of Owerri one-nil at Nnewi in an oriental derby as Katsina United defeated Jigawa Golden Stars three two in a five-goal thriller.

Sunshine Stars and Dakkada FC played out a one-all draw in Akure as Warri Wolves edged out Kwara United two one in Warri.
