Arik flight from Lagos to Port Harcourt makes emergency air return

An Arik Air flight from Muritala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos to Port Harcourt on Wednesday morning made an air return back to Lagos over oil indication light.

Mr Adebanji Ola, Public Relations and Communications Manager of Arik, while confirming the incident, said that the aircraft was on its climb when the pilot noticed the indication light.

According to him, as a safety precaution, the pilot of the Boeing 737-700 NG aircraft operating as flight W3 740 opted to return to the airport of departure in Lagos.

“The captain contacted the Lagos control tower to intimate the Air Traffic Controller of his decision and activated emergency protocols.

“This is a standard operating procedure and in line with best safety standards.”

He said the Port Harcourt-bound passengers were provided another aircraft to continue their journey.

He added that the airline’s team of engineers had commenced inspection of the aircraft that was returned to the ramp.

Ola stated that the airline would not compromise on safety and assured its customers of high safety standards.
