Former national security adviser to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Sambo Dasuki has been released by the Department of State Security.
The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, said the government of General Muhammadu Buhari decided to obey court orders and release political prisoners.
But sources said the government was forced to release Omoyele Sowore and former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki due to international pressure.
Dasuki had been detained for over four years despite several court orders for his release.
He was arrested in December 2015 for allegedly diverting billions of dollars meant for arms procurement.
The general Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration serially disobeyed court orders for his release.
Buhari’s government is hoping to borrow $30 billion from international lenders when the Senate approves.
