Rivers United beat Warri Wolves in NPFL

Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt claimed their first away victory of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, after beating Warri Wolves one-nil in the matchday five of the competition.

Michael Stephen scored the only goal of the game in the 38th minutes of the encounter.

The victory now moves the Port Harcourt based club to the seventh position with eight points from five games.

Rivers United is joint seventh on the league table alongside MFM FC of Lagos and Katsina United.

The victory is the team’s second win of the season after they beat Enugu Rangers two one in Port Harcourt during the midweek fixtures of the NPFL.

In another week five results of the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL, Abia Warriors defeated MFM FC one-nil in Umuahia, Akwa United played out a one-all draw against Nasarawa United in Uyo while Enyimba FC of Aba defeated Adamawa United.

Plateau United continued their impressive form in the season after beating Delta Force on the road by three goals to one, Akwa Starlets also recorded an away victory in Enugu by downing Rangers FC by two goals to nil.

Heartland FC of Owerri defeated Jigawa Golden Stars by one goal to nil while Katsina United beat Sunshine Stars two-nil.

In Kano, the match between Kano Pillars and Wikki Tourists of Bauchi ended goalless while Ifeanyi Ubah United also played out a goalless draw against in-form Lobi Stars of Makurdi.

In summary, the match-day five matches of the Nigeria Professional Football League recorded three away victories, 3 away draws and 4 home wins.

Plateau United of Jos still remains top of the league with 13 points from 5 matches while Lobi Stars and Enyimba FC are second and third respectively with 10 points each.
