By Brave Dickson
Men of the Nigeria Railway Police Command on Friday arrested one Prince Nuka, a robbery suspect, at about 8.45 pm at the Railway community in Port Harcourt with one revolver pistol.
The suspect and his gang were allegedly carrying out robbery operations on their victims who resided in the community before being foiled by the police and youths from the area.
Sergeant Friday Idenyi who was among the team of operatives that arrested the suspect said: “Yes yesterday Friday at about 8.45 pm in Railway community, some armed robbers came and were perpetrating crimes, we quickly responded to the distress situation.

“The Railway community youths were very much on the ground to assist the police which made the armed robbers flee.

” We went after them and caught one of them red-handed with a revolver pistol.

“The community youths insisted that they will burn the criminal alive but we said no and brought the hoodlum to our station.

” Right now the suspect is in our custody and investigation is going on to apprehend others at large.”

Speaking with our correspondent via telephone, the Divisional Police Officer of the Rivers State Railway Police Command, SP Richard Omeri said: “Because of the yuletide, I put in place a proactive policing strategy within the Railway community and I split my men into several foot patrol teams.

” So in course of their duty yesterday, they were alerted that armed robbers were operating at a particular compound in Railway community.

“The shout of the victims and gunshot released by one of the armed robbers brought the youths of the area to the scene.

” When the armed robbers saw the community youths and my foot patrol team, they took to their heels and my men pursued them.

“In the course of the hot chase, this very one we arrested fell into a ditch and got himself badly injured and that was where he was apprehended. Behold, he was still with his revolver pistol.

“I also arranged my men to embark on operation show of force which they did today in Boa community because of the incessant crimes there.

” It is a strategy to ward off criminals to make sure we have a hitch-free yuletide celebration.”
