Promise Nwankwo stated this while donating thirteen thousand free books to Government Secondary school, Umuakpai, Government Junior Secondary School and Community Secondary School, Egberu-Ndoki in Oyigbo local government area.
The lawmaker said that his passion for education motivated him to donate the free books to the students.
He also advised the students to be hardworking and focus on their studies.
Promise Nwankwo told the students that studying in the rural area is not a disadvantage but a blessing.
The principal of Government Secondary School, Umuagbai, Martha Jack while commending Promise Nwankwo appealed to other public office holders to emulate the gesture.
She said the free books will go a long way in eliminating the suffering of some parents who are not financially buoyant to cater for their children’s educational needs.
Martha Jack also appealed to government at all levels to assist them by upgrading the dilapidated structures in the schools.
She said the school lacks standard laboratory and library.
The principal noted that the students face serious challenges during external examinations due to infrastructural decay in the school.
She, however, commended the efforts of the state government so far in ameliorating their challenges but asked them to do more.
Also, the Principal of Government Junior Secondary School, Oyigbo, Nwala Azubuike Clement commended the lawmaker, Promise Nwankwo for the free books donation.
He also appealed to the lawmaker to present their problems to the Rivers State House of Assembly so as to get an immediate response from the government.
Some of the students who spoke to our correspondent commended the lawmaker for the gesture.
They told our correspondent that the books will go a long way in boosting their morale for learning.
