Supreme constitutes new panel for Rivers PDP Vs AAC appeal, reserves judgement

Tina Amanda

Supreme Court has reserved judgement in the appeal filed by Governor NYESOM WIKE and the Peoples Democratic Party against the ruling of the Appeal Court in Port Harcourt which favoured the Governorship Candidate of the African Action Congress, BIOKPOMABO AWARA.

Recall that the appeal court sitting in Port Harcourt had ordered parties involved in 2019 election petition filed by Biokpomabo Awara to return to the tribunal for the matter to be heard on its merit after the three-man panel led by KINGSLEY OJIAKOR had dismissed the petition on technical grounds.

Parties in the matter then proceeded to the Supreme court to interpret the judgment of the appeal court.

During the last sitting, the supreme court had suspended the hearing of the matter following a petition filed by Tawo Tawo, Counsel to AAC Governorship candidate, against the panel led by Justice Mary Odili.

Presiding over the matter, the newly constituted five-man panel led by Justice Rhodes-Vivor, after hearing adoption of written addresses by parties, reserved the case for judgement.

On the issue of legal representation of AAC which was pending in court, the Supreme panel ruled that Leonard Nzenwa as acting chairman of the party has the power to appoint counsel to represent AAC. The ruling was in favour of HENRY BELLO, Counsel representing the party.
