Breaking: Seven dead in renewed cult clash in Rivers State

At least seven persons, including a 15-year-old boy, have been killed in a renewed cult clash in Okehi, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Local sources told theportcitynews that several houses were also burnt down in the area.

A resident of the area who did not want to be named said the clash began on Monday morning over a disagreement between Degbam and Island cult groups.

He said a number of persons were killed but did not state the exact figures.

Another source who witnessed the attacks said the clash forced commercial drivers not to ferry passengers to Port Harcourt early in the morning.

“We woke up to the clash between the two cult groups. I can confirm that at least seven persons have been killed, while five sustained life-threatening injuries.

“No passenger from Okehi left for Port Harcourt today as commercial drivers ran for their lives. It was horrible”

They said security agencies have cordoned off the area and brought back normalcy.

Nnamdi Omoni, the public relations officer of the Rivers State Police Command did not respond to our enquiries for comments at the time of filing this report.
