Protest by drivers plying the mile 3/Choba route turned violent on Friday as a driver was shot by a policeman attached to Rivers state task force on street trading and illegal motor parks.
The drivers were protesting the assault on one of their colleagues by the task force when it snowballed into a violent quarrel.
Fellow drivers who took the wounded man to nearby hospital (Name Withheld) said they visited Choba police station but were refused a medical report to allow the hospital start treatment on him.
The DPO of Choba police station said he refused to authorise the report because the area where the incident took place was not under his jurisdiction.
However, upon pressure, Ozouba police station DPO granted the medical report which ensured that the life of young man was saved.
Meanwhile, the Bright Amaewhule led task force told theportcitynews that they were not aware a police officer attached to their team shot a driver.
