The Association of Lady Pharmacists have called for more empowerment of the girl child in the country.
The National President of Association of Ladies Pharmacists, VICTORIA UKWU said this while marking the International Day of Girl Child at Holy Rosary College in Port Harcourt.
The International Day of the girl child is a day set aside by the United Nations to look at the plight of young girls around the world and how to eliminate them.
VICTORIA UKWU said the girl child deserve more because of their roles in nation building.
She also called for more investment in the health and education of the girl child.
The National President of the Association of Lady Pharmacists also called on parents to pay more attention to the girl child by listening more to them.
Victoria Ukwu said most parents are abandoning their roles for teachers.
She said that parents should make out time for their children despite the financial challenges in the country.
The Secretary of the Association of Ladies Pharmacists AGBOMA ESOM-IBE during the programme advised the students to focus on their studies so as to become great personalities in the future.
AGBOMA ESOM-IBE while speaking to the students urged them to be bold and courageous to speak against sexual abuse.
She also called for an end to all forms of abuses on the girl child stating that the men should love and protect the girl child instead of abusing them.
Some of the students who participated in the awareness campaign commended the Association of Lady Pharmacists for the gesture.
They described the lectures they received as an eye opener that will help in their journey in life.
The theme of 2019 International Day of the Girl Child is ”GirlForce: Unscripted and unstoppable”
Our correspondent reports that the Association of Lady Pharmacists also distributed sanitary pads to the students during the sensitization programme at Holy Rosary College.
