The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has expressed worry over the acquisition of Shell’s 45 per cent stake in the OML 11 by the Rivers State Government.
Governor Nyesom Wike had in a televised broadcast on Monday announced the acquisition of Shell’s stake in the Ogoni Oil field as a way of ending the 23-year-old stand-off between Shell and Ogoni indigenes.

Wike also said that the State Government would partner with oil companies for further exploration of crude in the area to maximise revenue growth.
But the President of MOSOP, Fegalo Nsuke said the “Move raises serious concerns about our people’s safety, stifles our hopes of a peaceful resolution, disregards the concerns of the Ogoni people and threatens the peace of Ogoniland”
Nsuke warned that the move by the Rivers State government to take over Ogoni oil will only lead to further militarization and killings which has become the most talked-about action of government in Ogoni all in desperation to forcefully resume oil production without any regard for the concerns and rights of the Ogoni people.
