The Oil and Gas, joint industry companies, operating in Bonny have been called upon to pay attention to the development of the area by absorbing tertiary students and Graduates from Bonny for Industrial placement and Internship training respectively.

The Rivers State Lawmaker representing Bonny Constituency, Hon Abinye Blessing Pepple made the call during a meeting with the Public and Government Relations Management of Exxon Mobil, Bonny River Terminal, at his office in Port-Harcourt.

Pepple called on the company to reduce the indigenous stress contractors go through in sending their invoices to Eket for payment and create a focal desk at BRT for easy/quick accessibility and payment delivery.

“I am really elated about this meeting. There is an absolute need for continuous critical stakeholders engagement in the overall interest of all, particularly in terms of a critical needs assessment of the host community and the commitment to ensure growth, development and sustainable infrastructure.”

The lawmaker said that the death of one of the indigenous Fire Technicians at BRT from Banigo should be replaced with another Bonny indigene with the required certification and competence.

“I am particularly impressed with some of your corporate social responsibilities (CSR) and initiatives for Bonny and if wholly implemented, will address the deficit needs of our People. So, I commend you and your management for your strategic plans”, he added.

Mrs Omawumi Gomwalk, Public and Government Relation officer, Bonny River Terminal, assured the lawmaker that all concerns raised will be looked into as the community will always be integrated into affairs of the company.

She added that there would be an improvement on the dissemination of information for the Students regarding IT placements.

She said: “Whenever such training for graduates comes up, the information will be circulated and advertised for application”.

She further clarified that invoicing processes are being fast-tracked for prompt payment using technological/digital means and platforms, as well as revealing plans and achievement of the company for Bonny.
