The people of Uwaza in Abia state Nigeria has demanded the immediate vacation of SPDC from their land.
Uwaza/Imo Rivers oil field is part of OML 11, covering parts of Rivers and Abia States.
The community is also seeking the support of Ogoni people in their drive to oust Shell from their land.
The Paramount Ruler of Uwaza Etiti Oha, Okwa west Abia State Eze Obioma Livi Nworgu, the council of chiefs, Youths and women leaders of the community were all unanimous in their demand for Shell to leave their land.
They urged the Federal Government of Nigeria and the NNPC to take over the facility in their land, pending when negotiations will be concluded on the suitable E&P company to operate in their communities.
They sought the support of the leader of the Conscience of Ogoni People Chief Gani U. Topba in this regard.
In his remarks, Chief Gani Topba said Uwaza oil field is part of OML 11 which Ogoni is included. He said SPDC has since left Ogoni and Ogoniland is being cleaned, wondering why such a thing should not happen in Uwaza land.
