Tenant hacks landlord to death over rent

One Nwanele Tasie, a landlord at Rumuodumaya community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State has been hacked to death by one of his tenants, Izunna over rent.

The incident which happened on Tuesday morning threw the entire community in a state of confusion.

Mr Tasie who owns the space where his killer’s mother fries and sells Akara had gone to his tenants to demand for the rent which the woman had turned down several times.

Sources say Izunna had cautioned Mr Tasie to desist from collecting money from his mother who had been pestering them to pay N2000 as part payment for the rent.

The community sources said that on that particular day, Mr Tasie went to collect his rent but Izunna’s mother went and called her son, whom the community alleged was a notorious cultist.

Izunna allegedly stormed the place and hacked his mother’s landlord to death with a machete.

The killing sparked protest in the area as community members mounted a manhunt for the killer who had run to another estate upon realization that his victim had died.

However, police officers stormed the area before the community could descend on the killer and arrested him.

Residents say the assailant had been a major contributor to crime and criminality in the area.

They also said that Izunna’s parents have fled the area for fear of being attacked.
