PDP BoT disagrees with Wike over panel on house minority leadership tussle

Barely 24 hours after the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike threatened to deal with the Peoples Democratic Party if it dares to toy with Rivers State, the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party has dismissed his allegations.

Wike had branded the committee set up by the party to investigate how Ndudi Elumelu emerged the minority leader of the party in the House of Representatives as corrupt.

The governor while berating the Iyorchia Ayu-led panel, also hailed a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara, for withdrawing his membership of the committee.

However, Senator Walid Jibrin, the party’s BOT chairman dismissed the claim in a statement on Thursday, explaining that a clean bill of health was not yet passed on Elumelu until the BoT meets next week to reach a decision.

The BOT chairman said that the committee having submitted its report does not mean that Elumelu and other “erring” members of the House of Representatives were free from the allegations, stressing that a Disciplinary Committee led by Tom Ikimi is also on ground to perform its role.

Similarly, the BoT Secretary and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, who is also heading one of the committees said,”Permit me to make it abundantly clear to our performing Governor of Rivers State that Wabara is not corrupt and that I do not think that all the other distinguished members of this committee are corrupt.”
