Awara vs Wike: Drama in court as AAC presents unreliable witnesses

As Hearing continues on the petition filed by the Governorship Candidate of the Africa Action Congress in Rivers State, BIOKPOMABO AWARA against the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Peoples Democratic Party; its candidate in the last gubernatorial election, Governor NYESOM WIKE, two petitioner witnesses’ signature did not match their statements.

Igodo Albert who testified before the Election petition Tribunal in Port Harcourt, to have worked as AAC local government Collation Agent for Akuku-Toru tendered result sheets from 12 Wards, which he claimed were the certified copy from form EC8A that was used to declare AAC candidate winner

He said further that the total votes used to declare AAC candidate winner for Akuku-Toru is 55,562 votes, stressing that he is not aware of the total votes declared at the state Collation level.

Emma Ukala, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Counsel to Governor Nyesom Wike, argued that the result sheets which the witness tendered and claimed to be a certified copy used in announcing the winner is not from all the 17 wards of Akuku-Toru, stressing that the witness did not also show evidence of any appointment letter given to him by the party to prove he is the authentic LGA Collation Agent for Akuku-Toru.

Emma Ukala argued further that the result sheets presented by the witness were not duly signed by the polling units agents, he made the witness sign a signature in a clean sheet which did not match with the witness’ statement.

Ogbuagu who testified to have worked as Ward Collation Agent in Egberu ward 11 of Oyigbo local government area was also made to sign his signature which did not match with his witness statement.
