The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, PEPT has dismissed a preliminary objection filed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which challenged the non-inclusion of Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo as a party in the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate challenging the outcome of the February 23 presidential election.

The Tribunal in a unanimous decision held that the objection was not grounded in law.

Vanguard reports that INEC had in the motion it filed on May 5, asked the tribunal to strike out the petition over failure to join the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo as a necessary party in the case.
