A search party set up by the police in Rivers State, on Thursday, recovered the decomposing remains of a
policeman abducted three weeks ago by unknown gunmen in a forest.
The police Sergeant identified as Lawrence Igbero was abducted along Ogoni Road and was until his death, attached to the Police Mobile Force (PMF)
Unit 56.
It was gathered that the police investigating team tracked the late Igbero’s phone when they noticed it was still in use by someone who claimed to have bought it.
The police tracked and arrested the seller of the phone through the buyer who was said to have confessed that they killed and dumped the body of the sergeant in the forest.
Police said the suspects were responsible for other acts of kidnapping and snatching of vehicles in Ogoni.
The search party evacuated the sergeant, who was easily identified because his uniform was still on his body.
Nnamdi Omoni, the Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, said the body of the slain officer had been deposited to the mortuary for autopsy.
