There was palpable tension in Bayelsa on Thursday as the popular Elebele Bridge linking Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and other parts of the State collapsed.
Residents say a heavy-duty truck was trying to cross the bridge when it caved-in in the early hours of the day.
They said that the bridge was not built to carry heavy-duty trucks, adding that truck drivers usually flouted the rules.
No life was lost during the collapse but a truck fell into the water, injuring the driver and his conductors.
A closer look would reveal a bridge not built to have heavy-duty trucks ply on it.
Ogbia is the local government area of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Ogbia Brotherhood Youth Council in a statement advised people to use alternative routes.
They also appealed to the relevant agencies to come to their aid.
“The leadership of the Ogbia Brotherhood Youth Council is using this medium to call on the state government, local government, SPDC and other stakeholders to as a matter of utmost concern come to the yearnings of the people.” the statement read.
