King of Eleme calls for increased British assistance in Ogoni clean-up implementation

The traditional ruler of Eleme kingdom, Emere Dr Philip Osaro Obele on Friday urged the British government to increase its assistance in the implementation of the Ogoni Clean exercise.

The Eleme Monarch who made the appeal during a courtesy visit by the British Deputy High Commissioner, Ms Gill Atkinson and HYPREP Team, also called on the British High Commissioner to take to her government, all she has witnessed in course of her visit to the oil spill impacted communities.

The British Deputy High Commissioner, Gill Atkinson said she was in Ogoniland to access the level of work done by HYPREP and promised to deliver the messages of the Eleme people to the British government.

Mrs Atkinson was bestowed with the title of ‘Egbere Owa Ekoo Oku Eleme’

Presenting a special Sculpture of farmer to her, Chief Bebe Okpabi, Paramount Ruler of Ogale Clan who spoke on behalf of the King said the Sculpture is symbolic of the agrarian culture of the people, who being predominantly farmers, have lost their vast farm lands to the Oil spillage, but look up to the British Government for succor.
