Breaking: Wike denies demolishing Trans-Amadi central mosque

…….Imam says they won the government in court

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, said the reports that the state government demolished a mosque at Trans-Amadi were false.

Wike, who visited the area said the government initially gave a notice that no one should build on the land.

He said that when the matter was taken to court, the state government won the case, adding that it is unfortunate for people to say that there was a mosque built on the land.

He further asked the Muslim community to identify where they built the mosque and government demolished it.

Also, the chief Imam of the Trans-Amadi Mosque, Mohammad Harun said the structure was initially demolished in 2010 without notice.

Muhammad added that the matter was subsequently taken to court, adding that the court ruled in their favour prompting them to start building on the land again before government demolished it last week.

The Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning declined to comment on the matter, adding that only the permanent secretary has the authority to officially speak on the matter.
