The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, has congratulated the former Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, on his re-appointment as Minister of Transportation.

The Union also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for finding the former governor worthy of being re-appointed.

The NUJ, in a statement signed by the Chairman, Stanley Job Stanley and Secretary, Ike Wigodo, noted that Amaechi’s re-appointment as Transportation Minister was a clear indication that President Buhari must have been impressed by the minister’s achievements in the same ministry in the last four years.

The Union, however, urged the former governor to see his re-appointment as a call to national service, and in particular, use his office and position in the federal cabinet to attract development to Rivers State.

“We want to believe that Rt. Hon. Amaechi’s re-appointment is a testimonial to the fact that the minister must have impressed President Buhari during his first term as Transportation Minister.

“While we do not have doubt in the ability of the former governor of Rivers State to make a positive impact on the transportation sector in the country, we want to urge him to use his good office and position in the Federal Executive Council to attract development to Rivers State.

“As a worthy Rivers son and former governor of the state, it behoves on the minister to endear Rivers State to the heart of the Federal Executive Council”, the NUJ said.

The Council also noted Amaechi’s contributions to the development of journalism profession in Rivers State, saying the minister would forever be remembered by Rivers journalists.

The Union urged him to continue in his selfless service to human development and Nigeria.
