Authorities at the University of Port Harcourt, have asked students who were no registered for the 2018/2019 session to withdraw from the institution.
The office of the registrar of the institution, in a memo dated August 9, 2019, gave the students who have paid their school fees charges but did not register their courses in the first semester till Friday, August 25 to apply for withdrawal from the school.
Some students who spoke to theportcitynews over the development said they paid their fees but that the university’s portal refused to register them.
Others said they registered but were not verified on time in the university’s portal.
They called the ultimatum given by the institution draconian, adding that it might lead to the students engaging in vices during their withdrawal period.
A student who spoke on the condition of anonymity described the development as depressing.
She told a theportcitynews correspondent that the Vice-Chancellor, Ndowa Lale, has caged the students with his ‘ atrocious policies’
She added that she was affected by the ultimatum which she said, will extend her graduation for another one year.
Efforts to speak the Public Relations Officer of the University, William Wordi, were not successful as he did not answer calls to his mobile phone.
