Civil Society Organizations in Rivers State have said the ban on youth groups by the Rivers state government is an attempt to cage the youths.
Recall that the Rivers State government had a week ago, banned youth groups in the state.
The state government said youth groups have been taken over by cultists.
But the Chairman of Civil Society Organization in Rivers State Enefaa Georgewill in an interview said the pronouncement by the governor is an attempt to gag and cage the youths of the state
Georgwill said the governor had no such powers to ban youth bodies and advised him to follow the path of law in dealing with the issue.
He called the governor’s approach to problems bedevilling the state as a time bomb waiting to explode, adding that such attempts in the past were what led to the proliferation of cult groups in the state
He further advised the governor to deal with individual youths bodies and not to generalize youths activities and cautioned that Civil Societies in the state will stop at nothing to mobilize actions against the decision if it is not rescinded.
Other groups like the Ogoni Youths Foundation had earlier condemned the ban, threatening to challenge it in court.
